Fall’s almost here, which means that another season is on its way… football season! While you may be melting in the bleachers for the first few games, as the season continues, temperatures will only continue to drop. We recommend preparing for the cold now, so you don’t have to do any last-minute shopping before the big game! Don’t know where to start, or what to wear? We’ve curated this post of tips and tricks to help you figure out how to dress for watching sporting events in the cold weather.
Gloves and/or Mittens
There’s nothing worse than frozen fingers, especially when you’re trying to take a family selfie at a football game. Don’t worry, touchscreen gloves or mittens solve all your issues! Gloves and mittens are essential to keep the blood flowing in your hands, which results in keeping you warm and toasty. We recommend layering your mittens with a thin layer of gloves. And if your hands get too hot, you can always take off a layer!
Hats
Gone are the days of cold, red, burning ears. Now wear a comfortable winter hat to keep your ears warm and trap your body heat. At Sun & Ski Sports, we carry a variety of different winter hats. From beanies to earmuffs and stitch earflap hats, we have something for every style.
Scarf
Not only are scarves the perfect accessory to amp up your outfit, but they are also vital to keep you warm! Not only are they great for style, but they’re perfect for comfort. Whether you prefer them knitted, woven, or made from wool—scarves allow you to cover your face and adjust your breath, which is perfect for blocking out those chilly winds whenever you choose.
Layer Up
Layering up is essential to staying warm and being prepared for the cold. And if you get warm with excitement from the close game, you can always just take off a layer! On those extra cool nights, be sure to put on a base layer of thermals before putting on pants, a tee, a hoodie, and an insulated jacket. Thermals are a great way to trap body heat, as they are designed to keep all cool air out. But, if you prefer to stay away from thermals, you can always wear a pair of leggings underneath your jeans!
Thick Socks
Did you know that feet are one of the main temperature sensors in humans? That’s right, keeping your feet warm and protected from the cold helps regulate your overall body temperature. Besides a jacket, if there’s one other necessity for what to wear when watching sporting events in the cold weather, we recommend a high-quality pair of socks. Stay warm and cozy throughout the game and choose from a variety of different fabrics, including wool, cotton, polyester, nylon, or even fuzzy socks! Be sure to size up your winter boots to accommodate extra room for thick socks.
