The Ultimate Guide to Skiing or Snowboarding with Glasses

October 25, 2022 by

If you wear prescription glasses, you may be hesitant to plan your next skiing or snowboarding adventure. But don’t worry! Wearing glasses on your winter adventure is absolutely possible. With the correct set-up, there are plenty of ways to wear glasses without compromising your comfort. We’re here to let you know the surefire ways to see clearly on the slopes, so you can enjoy your time on the mountain to the fullest.

How to Wear Your Snow Goggles with Glasses

Over the glasses (OTG) goggles are perfect for those who want to wear glasses while skiing and snowboarding.

Over the Glasses (OTG) Ski & Snowboard Goggles

Over the glasses goggles are the perfect solution if you’re looking to ski or snowboard with your glasses on. These goggles are specifically designed to fit your prescription glasses underneath. OTG goggles provide room necessary to keep your glasses and your face safe. We never recommend wearing a pair of glasses under a regular pair of snow goggles, as if you happen to fall during your skiing or snowboarding adventure, your glasses frames can cut your face.

Look for OTG snow goggles that have temple cutouts for eyeglass arm pieces and extra volume. These will please those who prefer to comfortably wear their glasses under their goggles. Another feature to look for in OTG Snow Goggles is top-of-the-line inner lens anti-fog technology.

Contact Lenses

Gone are the days of constantly adjusting your eyewear while you’re trying to ski or snowboard! Contact lenses provide a sense of freedom unlike any other. For days on the slopes, we recommend trying single-use lenses. That way, you don’t need to order a supply that lasts you for six months to a year. Instead, at the end of the day, you can toss those used contacts out! This is the perfect solution for those who want to give contact lenses a whirl without committing to wearing them for extended periods of time.

Prescription Ski & Snowboard Goggle Inserts

Prescription inserts are a great solution for those who hate wearing contact lenses and want to try another method besides OTG goggles. With prescription inserts, you’re able to get a wider range of vision, and you don’t have to worry about pushing your glasses up your nose! The only downside: when you take your goggles off, you’re taking your glasses off. So, if you plan to stop by for lunch at the bottom of the hill, be sure to bring a spare pair of glasses.

How to Keep Your Glasses from Fogging Underneath Your OTG Goggles

Prevent your glasses from fogging underneath your OTG goggles with these four steps.

If you don’t have the right equipment, or if you don’t take care of your gear properly, your glasses are more likely to fog up underneath your snow goggles on the slopes. Be sure to follow the steps below to avoid this occurrence.

Step 1

When picking out OTG goggles, check for more vents around the edge of your goggles. The more vents, the better, as your breath is less likely to stay trapped in your goggles.

Step 2

If you take your goggles off when going inside of a lodge, restaurant, or restroom, don’t put them back on immediately when you come back out. Instead, wait for five seconds in the cold, so your face and glasses can cool down and adjust to the surrounding outdoor temperature.

Step 3

Don’t tuck your ski mask into your goggles. Doing so will trap your breath, and cause your glasses and goggles to fog up on the slopes. This can be a safety hazard if you’re wearing glasses underneath your OTG goggles, as two surfaces will block your line of sight.

Step 4

Avoid fog at all costs and hang your goggles up to dry overnight. Failure to do so can cause moisture to stay trapped in the vents of your goggles, which results in recurring fog.
