Comments about Cateye Cateye HL-EL135 Bicycle Light:
I ride hundreds of night miles annually. I've had this light for a couple years and use it with energizer 15 min. rechargeables. It runs forever. While this light is not bright enought for trails, it is a good "be seen" light. I like the "flex tite" no tools mount. This light will easily illumumiate reflective signage 100-150 yards away. The beam is wide both the horizontal and vertical planes. Without streelights, I point it 10-15 feet in front of the bike for a blueish white spot for hazard recognition at 12-15 mph. It works well for that kind of fill in role. I find it quite adquate for periodic darkness, but not a good choice for miles of unlit, dark roads. The light is not bright enough to provide "be seen" functionality when pointed down for "seeing" the roadway. There is not a lot of friction in the sliding battery compartment lid. I occasionally dislodge it when aiming the light. It has never come apart or failed in service.
