I use the hullraiser aero to transport my kayaks to and from the nearby lakes and resivoirs all are 30 minutes or less.  The "J" shaped cradle really does make it easy to load and unload with out a whole lot of time, allowing moretime on the water.  My kayaks are 12 ft long, for the local trips I don't bother with the front and rear bumber straps.  The straps on top are enough for my use.  That decision would need to be made by situation.  For road trips Iwould definately use the front and rear bumber straps.  The rack itself is very easy to use and put on my factory bars, but it can get burdensome to keep taking the rack on and off per each use.  I like to take it off when not in use so no one steals them as it would be easy to do.
