Is a rectangular bag warmer than a mummy sleeping bag?
When selecting a camping sleeping bag, you’ll see bags that are rectangular in shape and others that are tapered at the bottom, or “mummy-shaped.” While both bags can provide you with a good night’s sleep, keep these hiking sleeping bag points in mind before you buy:
- Rectangle: A rectangular bag won’t warm up as quickly as a mummy-shaped camping sleeping bag. But it gives you more space to move around, and in some situations, like when you want less warmth, and if you are not carrying the sleeping bag during the day, a rectangular bag might be the right camping sleeping bag for you.
- Mummy: A mummy-shaped lightweight sleeping bag can warm you up more quickly, but you might find it too warm for outdoor summer sleeping. However, many mummy-shaped bags are more compact, and a mummy bag might be your best bet for a hiking sleeping bag that you carry with you each day.
