As you know there are a lot of retailers opening their doors on Thanksgiving Day. We have elected not to follow that trend. WE BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A DAY OF CELEBRATION WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

This means that none of our stores will be open on Thanksgiving Day.

What is the reason for the sternum strap on a hiking bag?

A proper fit is the most important feature of camping backpacks. Once you have chosen your potential day hiking pack, you can customize the fit by adjusting the straps. Be sure to check the fit of the different types of straps on any hiking bag, whether it is a small hiking pack or a camping backpack for a week-long trek.

  • Sternum strap: Some hikers like to secure their camping backpacks across the chest using the sternum strap, while others don’t use it. If you think you might use this strap, check the fit when you have some gear in the pack, and adjust it so it fits snugly.
  • Shoulder straps: Adjust your shoulder straps on any camping backpacks so they line up with your torso, which backpack manufacturers define as the distance from the topmost protruding vertebra in your neck to the top of your hips.

Before you buy camping backpacks, put some weight in a model you like, and walk around the store to get a sense of how the hiking bag feels and whether you can adjust the straps easily.

Visit your local Sun & Ski Sports shop for expert advice about adjusting the straps on camping backpacks.
