As you know there are a lot of retailers opening their doors on Thanksgiving Day. We have elected not to follow that trend. WE BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A DAY OF CELEBRATION WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

This means that none of our stores will be open on Thanksgiving Day.

Then bundle up your outgrown coats, jackets, sweaters, hats and gloves for the Sun & Ski annual “Share Your Warmth” winter clothing drive November 5-18 benefiting Star of Hope. Collection boxes for gently used clothing items will be located at all five Houston-area Sun & Ski stores.

“We hope Houstonians will look into their closets and into their hearts again this year and share what’s inside,” said Barry Goldware, President and CEO of the Houston-based adventure sports retailer that spearheads the citywide effort.

Over the past nine years, Sun & Ski has collected more than 22 tons of clothing to provide warmth to Houston’s homeless, according to Marilyn Fountain, Star of Hope Community Relations.

Courtesy of Gore products, Sun & Ski will sponsor a contest to win a new Mountain Light jacket by The North Face throughout the “Share Your Warmth” clothing drive.

The weather chamber allows participants to dial up their own weather and choose from a wide range of weather conditions while wearing GORE-TEX® outerwear.

“Share Your Warmth” collection bins are located at Sun & Ski stores throughout the Houston area: 6100 Westheimer, Memorial City Mall, Katy Mills Mall, 5503 FM 1960 West and 1355 Bay Area Boulevard.

Through Emergency Shelters and Transitional Living Centers, Star of Hope touches the lives of more than 7,000 different homeless people each year, including more than 1,600 children. Star of Hope ministers to approximately 1,000 men, women and children every day with food, clothing, shelter, Christian care and structured recovery programs.

Sun & Ski Sports, the “guide to the great outside,” outfits enthusiasts who ski, run, hike and bike around the world. The store launched its first-ever e-commerce site this fall at www.sunandski.com.

Amazing Race Team Preps their Adventure with Sun & Ski Sports

Published: March 9, 2007

Houston’s own Joyce and Uchenna Agu, $1-million winners of the hit CBS reality TV series "The Amazing Race" Season 7, are back in the Race -- with the help of Houston-based Sun & Ski Sports. With a chance to double their winnings, the Bayou City’s dynamic duo will participate in the 2007 "The Amazing Race 11" All-Stars, which begins Sunday, February 18, 7 p.m. on KHOU-TV Ch. 11.

The Agus sought out Sun & Ski for their expert advice in adventure travel gear and accessories; the store outfitted the couple for both of their "Amazing Races," Seasons 7 and 11.

"We hope to rally Houstonians to share the excitement and help cheer Joyce and Uchenna on to a second 'Amazing Race' victory," said Barry Goldware, president and CEO of Sun & Ski Sports. "They are deeply committed to sharing their own transformational experiences from the Race to help inspire others to make the most of their lives. They are truly amazing."
